Volleyball Splits Home Tri-Meet

ROCKY MOUNT, NC. – The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team split their home-opening tri-meet on Wednesday afternoon inside Everett Gymnasium. Non-conference foe Piedmont International University (N.C.) topped the Bishops in three sets (25-22, 25-21, 25-18) in the first match before Wesleyan came roaring back in their night match behind an enthusiastic crowd to dominate Div. II Elizabeth City St. University (N.C.) in four sets (25-12, 21-25, 25-12, 25-13).

Sophomore OH Callie Cline led the Bishops in the win over ECSU (0-6) with 12 kills and 15 digs for a big double-double while hitting .296. Junior OH Autumn Spence was also in double-digit kills with 10 while hitting .438.

Junior setter Haileigh Riesenbeck also added 33 assists with 10 digs for her double-double as well while freshman middle Lauren Weaver and junior Hannah Thrasher would each add 6 kills apiece with Thrasher also adding 2 solo blocks.

Also recording quality games were Kelly Ammons , pictured, with 8 assists, 4 aces, and 5 digs while S/RS Sydney Barnwell hit .250with 7 kills and a block. Libero Devin Lassiter also added 14 digs defensively.

Leading the Lady Bishops attack vs. Piedmont was Callie Cline with 9 kills and 9 digs with 4 aces while Autumn Spence and Lauren Weaver also added 7 and 4 kills apiece respectively with a block each. Riesenbeck also led with 8 assists with 3 digs and 3 aces while Barnwell and 6 assists and two aces. Lassiter also contributed 17 digs. 

The Battling Bishops (2-4) are now back on the road to head to USA South foe Huntingdon, Ala. to play in a multi-team tournament beginning tomorrow with their matches set to begin at 1 & 4 PM. They will then play at 11 AM and 3 PM on Saturday as well.
