Bishop Volleyball Battles Hard in Defeat

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.- The Battling Bishops Volleyball team fought hard in their USA South matchup with conference leader Meredith College (N.C.) on Wednesday, but their valiant effort fell short in three sets.

Meredith outlasted the Lady Bishops in a hard-fought first set 25-21 before the Avenging Angels pulled away in the second to take it 25-14. Wesleyan then rallied from a mid-game deficit to trim MC's lead to four points late, but fell 25-20 in the final set.

Meredith totaled 35 kills in the match to the Bishop's 29 while NCWC collected more digs, 41-39. 

Sophomore outside hitter Callie Cline led the Bishops with 8 kills hitting .200 along with 8 digs and a block. Right side hitters Sydney Barnwell and junior Autumn Spence also added 7 and 6 kills respectively with Barnwell adding two blocks and Spence contributing 4 digs and a block. 

Junior setter Haileigh Riesenbeck led in assists with 15 while junior DS Hannah Huls and freshman  Devin Lassiter combined for 16 digs and an ace.

NCWC falls to 4-10 overall and 0-3 in the USA South while Meredith improves to a conference-best 4-0 and 9-3 overall.

The Bishops are next in action on Saturday at Greensboro College (N.C.) for a Noon tri-match with Salem College (N.C.) and GC.
