GREENSBORO, N.C.- The NC Wesleyan Volleyball team went on the road Saturday and split their USA South tri-match with Greensboro and Salem College (NC), beating GC in five sets before falling to Salem in 3.

Wesleyan dominated the first two sets vs. Greensboro winning 25-17 and 25-18 before GC rallied to take the next two sets 25-18 and 25-21 to force a deciding fifth game.

The Battling Lady Bishops then showed up big and went on to win 15-7 behind 9 kills and just one error hitting .421 in the final set to pick up their first win of the conference season improving to 1-4.

Wesleyan totaled more digs than the Pride, 103-98 led by a huge game from sophomore OH Callie Cline as she led with 17 kills on just four errors to hit .250 while collecting 19 digs and two aces.

Also having a big game was freshman right side Sydney Barnwell with 9 kills (hitting .250) along with five digs, three aces, and a solo block while freshman libero Devin Lassiter led with a team-high 27 digs along with 3 assists. Junior setter Haileigh Riesenbeck then led with 27 assists along with 2 aces and 6 digs in the win while junior OH Autumn Spence also added 9 kills and 8 digs in the victory.

Also playing well were middle blockers Haley Rising and junior Hannah Thrasher as they combined for 10 kills with Rising also adding 8 digs and a solo block. Setter Kelly Ammons also played well with 11 assists, 8 digs and an ace.

SALEM 3, NCWC 0

The Bishops then fell in their next match in 3 sets to Salem College (5-6, 3-1) falling 25-18, 25-21, and 25-22.

Riesenbeck led with a double-double of 14 assists and 12 digs with two aces while Spence led with 8 kills hitting .263. Cline also added 9 digs, four kills, and 2 solo blocks with Lassiter also adding 9 digs. Barnwell then produced five kills with 8 assists and 7 digs with a block in the defeat. Thrasher also hit .400 with 5 kills and a block.

NCWC goes to 5-11 overall and returns to action on Tuesday at home vs. non-conference foe Mid-Atlantic Christian University at 6:30 Pm.
