Bishop Volleyball Splits Tri-Match

MISENHEIMER, N.C.- The NC Wesleyan Volleyball team split their USA South tri-match at Pfeiffer University (NC) on Saturday topping Mary Baldwin University (Va.) 3-0, but falling to Pfeiffer in four sets.

The Bishops topped MBU 25-11, 25-18, and 27-25 behind 29 kills, 6 aces, 8 total blocks, and 76 digs.

Sophomore OH Callie Cline led the team with 12 kills and 16 digs for a double-double while hitting .241. Freshman right side Sydney Barnwell also had 5 kills and 5 blocks with 2 assists and 2 digs while freshman middle Haley Rising also added 5 kills and a block. 

Freshman libero Devin Lassiter led the Bishops with 18 digs and three aces while junior setter Haileigh Riesenbeck also added a double-double of 17 assists and 11 digs in the win.

MBU falls to 0-8 in the league and 1-19 overall. 

In the Pfeiffer match, NCWC kept up their momentum by taking the first set from the Falcons 25-23 before Pfeiffer rallied back to take the second set 25-19. The third and fourth sets were very evenly matched with both going to 26 points, but unfortunately for the Bishops, they could not win the close points and fell 24-26 in each set to drop the match.

Wesleyan hit better then Pfeiffer in two of the sets, but could not come out on top finishing with 47 kills in the match and 67 digs. They were led by 25 digs from Lassiter and another double-double from Cline who had 11 kills and 15 digs. Barnwell and Rising also played well, each tallying 10 kills apiece and hitting over .200 for the match while junior Autumn Spence also added 8 kills. Riesenbeck led with 24 assists as well.

The Bishops go to 8-12 overall and 3-5 in the conference with the split while Pfeiffer improves to 7-10 overall and is also 3-5 in the USA South.

NCWC was next on the road to face Guilford College on Sunday afternoon at 1 PM.
