Volleyball Falls to USA South Leader Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C.- The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team dropped their conference match to USA South leader Meredith College in 3 sets on the road Wednesday evening.

Meredith won the first game 25-15, the second game 25-19 even as the Bishops had 12 kills and hit .400 while also winning the third set 25-20.

Wesleyan totaled 33 kills in the match while hitting .212 with the Angels posting 40 kills and hit .265. 

Junior outside hitter Autumn Spence led the Bishops with 7 kills and a block hitting .333 while fellow junior middle blocker Hannah Thrasher posted 6 kills on just one error hitting a team-best .625 with two blocks. Freshman right side hitter Sydney Barnwell also played well tallying 6 kills with just one error and hitting .357 with 2 digs, a block, and an assist.

 The setting duo of juniors Kelly Ammons and Haileigh Riesenbeck combined for 25 assists, 2 aces, and 11 digs while libero Samantha Butensky led the team with 10 digs while also posting a kill and an assist. Middle blockers Haley Rising and Lauren Weaver also tallied 4 kills apiece while Callie Cline added 3 kills and 6 digs.

The Bishops fall to 8-18 overall and 3-9 in the conference with the loss while Meredith improves to 17-3 overall and 12-0 in the USA South.

Wesleyan is next in action on Saturday when they travel to Salem College to play the Spirits and Greensboro at 12 and 2 PM.
