Bishop Volleyball can't get past VA Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team dropped their non-conference match with Virginia Wesleyan in three sets at home Tuesday evening.

VA Wesleyan got out to a fast start in the first game and cruised to a 25-12 win. The Marlins then pulled away late in the second set to take it 25-19 before taking the third set 25-16 as well.

VWU (15-8) had a positive hitting percentage in each set including .219 in the final set while the Bishops struggled in the first and third sets.

Leading the Bishops offensively was junior outside hitter Autumn Spence with 8 kills along with 2 blocks and 2 digs while sophomore OH Callie Cline also added 6 kills and 7 digs. Junior middle Hannah Thrasher also had a good game with 4 kills and a team-best 3 blocks.

Defensively, NCWC was led by 9 digs from freshman libero Devin Lassiter and 7 digs and 10 assists from junior setter Kelly Ammons. Fellow setter, Haileigh Riesenbeck, who was honored before the match for registering her 1,000th career assist, also went on to lead the team with 15 assists along with an ace and 5 digs.  

The Bishops, who fell to 8-21 overall, next hit the road for their final non-conference game of the season on Thursday at Emory & Henry College (Va.) at 6 PM.
