Volleyball's Season comes to an end with loss to Averett

RALEIGH, N.C. - The #6 seeded NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team's season came to an end on Tuesday evening in the first round of the USA South Tournament as they fell 3-0 to #3 seed Averett University. The match was played in Raleigh on Peace's Campus.

Averett (16-15) then went on to face host Peace (24-5) in the Quarterfinals with #2 Peace coming out victorious in five sets. Wesleyan finishes the season 10-23.

Averett won the first two sets over the Bishops by scores of 25-11 and 25-10 before ending the match 25-14 as the Cougars cruised to the win. Averett hit .332 with 40 kills while NCWC had 20 kills, 34 digs, and 6 assisted blocks.

Leading the Bishops was freshman right side Sydney Barnwell with 8 kills as she hit .200 with an assist, two digs, and a block. Junior middle Hannah Thrasher then had 5 kills and hit .200 as well with 2 digs, an assist and a block.

Junior setter Haileigh Riesenbeck led with 12 assists while adding 3 digs with sophomore OH Callie Cline adding 4 kills, 4 digs, an assist and a block. Freshman libero Devin Lassiter also led the team with 8 digs as she finished with 451 on the season. Cline ended up leading the team with 227 kills while Riesenbeck had 504 assists.

Cline was also  named to the conference all-sportsmanship team as well.
