Volleyball's Cline Named Sabiston Award Winner

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - As was previously announced at the athletic awards ceremony back in April, senior volleyball player Callie Cline was awarded the Jim Sabiston Courage Award for 2020-21. 

A native of Stanfield, NC, Cline graduated in May of 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Computer Information and Visual Arts. Cline was named to the USA South All-Academic Team during her sophomore, junior, and senior years from 2019-2021 as well. She was also named to the President's Honor List multiple times and is a two-time winner of the USA South Sportsmanship Award.

She will now work as a Grad Assistant in the Athletic Dept. at Div. II Valdosta St. in Georgia. 

"Callie exemplifies all the characteristics of the Jim Sabiston Award and more," commented Cline's head coach, Vicky Gentile. "She is a stellar athlete, an exemplary student, and most importantly a genuine and caring person. We were honored to have her a part of our program for the past four years."

"Callie was an instrumental help to the athletics department and sports information office this past year serving as the social media intern and primary sports photographer," commented SID Troy Baranik. "Her important photography, video, and graphic work helped enhance the website to another level and illustrate the quality of our student-athletes at NCWC."

Cline also spent the 2019 summer as the social media intern for the Gastonia Grizziles CPL baseball team

Cline led the Lady Bishops to 5 wins this season in an abbreivated season while totaling 1,300 career digs. This past season, Cline totaled 81 kills, 143 digs, and 18 blocks during the 15-match season.

Mamadou Jallow of the men's soccer team won last year's Sabiston Award.
