NCWU Volleyball Douses Alverno College Inferno

The NC Wesleyan volleyball team traveled to LaGrange College on Thursday for a 3 match weekend. The Bishops started tournament play with a 3-1 win over Alverno College on Friday with scores of 25-17, 25-20, 19-25, and 25-19.

Several new faces made their collegiate debut in LaGrange, contributing to the first win. Freshman middle Ludmila Borges led the offense, hitting a 0.353 with 8 kills, 5 aces, and 3 digs. Emily Foraker tallied 7 kills, hitting a 0.308 in her first appearance.

Propelling the offense, fellow first-year setter Katie Fulton managed 6 kills, 12 assists, 3 aces, and 5 digs. Returning junior setter Sloan Martin also contributed 14 assists, 8 kills, 2 aces, and 7 digs. Senior Aubrey Nicholson added 5 kills, 2 aces, and 2 assists for the Bishops.

The defensive effort was led by graduate-transfer libero Barrett Davis, earning 17 aces and 3 assists. Graduate defensive specialist Mary Cat Davis added 7 digs, freshman Corrina Hall totaled 6 digs, and senior Kira Kristjanson tallied 4 digs.

The Battling Bishops face non-conference opponents LaGrange College at 11 AM and Huntingdon College at 1 PM on Saturday.
