The NC Wesleyan College men's and women's Cross Country teams will be traveling to Memphis, TN this weekend to compete in the NCAA Regional Championships.  Both teams are excited to compete against the top D3 teams in the Southern Region of the U.S.

The top 2 teams from the will region advance to the NCAA National Championships. The states in the South Region cover from as far north as Virginia and Kentucky to Florida and west to Texas.  The South Region is considered one of the largest regions of competition in the NCAA when it comes to cross country. 

The teams will leave Thursday morning and make stops in Knoxville, TN, Nashvillle, and Memphis on this 4-day trip.  

The women's team raced in the NCAA Regionals in 2018, but did not finish with a team score, as only 2 women raced. This year, NCWC has a new group of freshmen runners and they have performed at a high level all season.  

They finished in 9th place out of 17 teams at the USA South Championships, while missing 2 of their 3 fastest runners.  This was an improvement from the previous year where they finished in 15th place. 

"These young women have a bright future and they have the will and desire to make their mark on the cross country running program," commented coach Marshall Leonard.

NCWC will be represented by All-Conference Honorable Mention, freshman Cedara Franklin, All-Conference Sportsmanship Teanna Bellamy, as well as freshmen Snejana Spinache, Toni Foster, Sinai Ashe-Lee, sophomore Michelle Sackey-Ansah, and junior Hayley Sheehan. 

"We are excited to be advancing our program and will be pushing to make this a championship level team, and these young adults are helping us get there," finished Leonard.
