Lady Bishops Compete at ECU 6K

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's cross country team competed at the ECU Pirates 6K Invitational on Friday afternoon and finished 11th overall in the mostly D-1 race, but placed 4th out of the D-2 and D-3 teams in the field.

Leading the way for Wesleyan was freshman Anna Ray finishing 81st overall in 29:55 while teammate, junior Teanna Bellamy placed 83rd in 30:28.

Freshman Mariah Brooks then came in 89th in 34:09 while fellow rookie Naomi Pilapil finished 93rd in 37:13. Sophomore Sarah Waters then finished up the scoring in her season debut placing 97th in 41:31.

Junior Toni Foster and freshman Assata Sirleaf also each competed in their first races of the season with Foster finishing in 46:41 and Sirleaf in 46:43.

ECU women won the race followed by UNCG, American, USC, and UNCW. Meredith was the top D-3 finisher followed by VA St., WPU, NCWC, and Elizabeth City St.

The women next return to action on Saturday, Oct. 30 at home when they host the USA South Championships at Noon.
