NC Wesleyan to Induct 3 into 2019 Hall of Fame Class

NC Wesleyan to Induct 3 into 2019 Hall of Fame Class

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The purpose of the North Carolina Wesleyan Athletics Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor those individuals, who through their superior athletic achievements or by their outstanding service, have made long-lasting, exemplary contributions to the college. Beginning with its inaugural class in 1999, Wesleyan has bestowed this honor upon 70 former athletes, administrators, and coaches who created a higher standard for our Bishops. This year's inductees meet those same standards and will comprise the 21st class of honorees. The Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that former head volleyball coach Robin Pietryk, as well as two players, former softball player Ashlee Bass and former baseball player Frankie Moore, as the latest additions to the N.C. Wesleyan Athletics Hall of Fame.

Robin Pietryk is honored to headline the 2019 Hall of Fame class after serving as the head volleyball coach for 15 years at NCWC from 2000-2014. Graduating from Bethany College (WV) in 1990 as a three-time all-conference volleyball player and two-time all-conference softball player, Pietryk, a native of East Liverpool, OH, joined the Bishops in 2000 and immediately posted a winning record of 15-14. She would go on to post eight winning seasons compiling 247 career wins in the process.

Pietryk's Wesleyan tenure saw her build a strong winning tradition for North Carolina Wesleyan volleyball. From 2007 to 2012, her Lady Bishops recorded six consecutive 20-win seasons including tying a school record for wins with 26 in 2008 that tied the 1980 team record for wins. Over those six years, Pietryk led her team to a record of 134 wins and 67 losses (a .667 winning %). Individually, she guided 13 different players to 26 First, Second, or honorable mention team All-Conference honors, as well as leading one player to earn USA South Woman and/or Rookie of the Year accolades in 2008 and 2011.

"I am thankful for the opportunity I had coaching at North Carolina Wesleyan," said Pietryk. "It was both a privilege and honor to coach so many wonderful young women."

Pietryk was also an assistant on the softball staff as Ashlee Bass enjoyed a terrific Bishop career on the softball field as well.

A native of Midlothian, VA, Bass made a name for herself as an offensive force and as a shortstop in the USA South over the course of her career from 2005 to 2008. At the completion of her senior season, she held the single season records for batting average (.500 in '06), hits (67 in '06), home runs (8), and RBIs (43 in '08). She was also the career record holder in average (.441), hits (205), doubles (42), runs (132), total bases (304) and assists (312) as she helped the Lady Bishop softball team compile 79 wins over her career including two 20-win seasons.

Bass was twice named as Wesleyan Female Athlete of the Year and was Team Co-MVP in 2006 and 2008 with current assistant coach Libby Fulford while also being named first team all-conference in 2005, 2007, and 2008.

"Ashlee was an outstanding player who did a lot for NC Wesleyan Softball," commented coach Pietryk. "She was a pleasure to help coach and I am so honored to go in the Hall of Fame in the same class as someone with her talent."

"A 2006 All-American, Ashlee will go down as the most decorated softball player in Wesleyan history," commented current NC Wesleyan head coach John Brackett who coached Bass for four years. "She is certainly most deserving of Hall of Fame recognition.  We were very fortunate to have her in our program."

Bass received her bachelor's degree in Psychology in the spring of 2008.

A native of Prince George, VA, Moore played for the Bishops Baseball team from 1983 through 1987 as a pitcher racking up 27 career wins and an .843 winning percentage. This included going 11-0 in 1987 to complete back-to-back years of 11 wins as he also recorded 11 in 1986. Moore currently ranks second at NCWC in single season wins with 11 and is tied for first in winning percentage (1.000). For his career, Moore is tied for 4th in school history with those 27 wins and is 5th all-time at Wesleyan in winning percentage (.843).

Moore was named all-conference and All-American in '86 and '87 as well as winning the NCWC Outstanding Male Athlete in '87. He graduated in 1987 with a B.S. in Business Administration and currently works for Evonik Corp., a large chemical manufacturer in Hopewell, VA. Moore has been married for 25 years and has a son that is currently a junior at Longwood University (Va.).

"It is an honor to be inducted and I thoroughly enjoyed my years at NC Wesleyan," commented Moore on his Hall of Fame induction.

In a move to accommodate the schedules of all three inductees, a formal ceremony will be held in the Dunn Center lobby on Friday, October 11 in conjunction with Wesleyan's first-ever football on-campus game versus Greensboro College the following day, October 12th at Noon.
