
ROCKY MOUNT, NC. - A goal with five minutes left in the game secured the win Saturday afternoon as the Fighting Squirrels blanked N.C Wesleyan 1-0 in the final regular season game of the season. The victory secured a USA South home tournament game for MBU.
MBU scored in the 85th minute when freshman Vanessa Alfaro-Young tallied her fifth goal of the year off a pass from junior Quierra Hawkins .
MBU keeper Anyka Wilkin kept the game scoreless with six saves, three in the second half, to record the shutout.
N.C Wesleyan held a 12-4 edge in total shots and an 8-6 margin in corner kicks.
Mary Baldwin, now 12-6-1 overall, is back in action Tuesday when the team hosts a USA South tournament game. MBU is the No. 3 seed in the tournament field and will face N.C. Wesleyan in a rematch Tuesday beginning at 2:30 p.m. at SMA Worth Field. Admission is free.
