NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's tennis team opened play in the 2021-22 season this weekend as they hosted the 2021 CNU Invite on the James T. and Sarah C. Eyre Courts. The home venue for the Captains saw nearly 90 matches played as the Captains welcomed in teams from around the region for fall tournament action. 

Dawson Driscoll won twice in singles and added a doubles win for the Captains. Driscoll picked up two victories in the Flight D singles, including one over a Division I opponent. The CNU veteran downed Muhammad Ibrahim Abbas of Norfolk State University by the final score of 6-1, 7-5. 

In doubles play, CNU grabbed three wins over Division I opponents over the weekend's tournament. In the Flight A Doubles bracket, Ryan Macy and Alec Strause paired up for an 8-4 win over Longwood's Rosen Naydenov and Luis Reis. In the Flight B doubles bracket, CNU added two more wins over DI foes as Eddy Porsmyr Hansen paired with Matthew Dubuque for an 8-6 victory against the Spartans Abbas and Ivan Ivars and Theodor Risebrobakken joined Tyler Hyun for an 8-7 (5) win against Longwood's Guillermo Cagigas and Ernest Rocabert.
