NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- A small rainstorm that impacted the Newport News area shortened the second day of the 2019 CNU Invitational, but the Christopher Newport men's tennis program picked up several individual victories prior to the cancellation. Competition concluded at the event Sunday afternoon after Christopher Newport was led by senior Andy Mason and sophomore Ryan Macy in doubles action. 

Mason and Macy paired up for a couple of doubles wins on Sunday with both coming against opponents from NCAA Division I Norfolk State University. First, Mason and Macy defeated Agustin Carrizo and Ignacio Guevel by a score of 8-2 before coming back and capturing a tiebreak victory over Vina Da Silva and Andres Alcaraz, 8-7 (7). The Christopher Newport pair dropped their first match of the season together on Saturday but bounced back nicely for a couple of wins on Sunday. 

Also in A flight doubles, newcomers Harrison Hunter and Alec Strause picked up an 8-2 win over Carrizo and Guevel to wrap up their Christopher Newport debuts with a 1-2 record in doubles. James Baron and Dominic Lacombe won their flight in B doubles after going 1-0 on Saturday and then registering an 8-5 win over Luis Marcano and Dominick Perez from Hampton University. 

Lacombe and Hunter each added a singles win as part of the top flight of individual play. Lacombe dispatched of Delaware's Justice Jones on Saturday and Hunter grabbed his first collegiate win at Christopher Newport on Sunday against Division I's Davy Van Geerke from Hampton University (6-2, 7-6 (7)).

In Flight B, Macy earned a singles win before the skies opened up and wrapped up the tournament on the home courts at Christopher Newport. Macy downed Hampton's Roman Elmore (7-6, 6-3) on Sunday in the consolation semifinals. 

Next up, Christopher Newport will travel to the Joe Hunt Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy on September 27-29 as their final fall tune-up before the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on October 4-6.
