Senior forward Greg Rowson scored a game-high 26 points, including seven points in the final minutes, to lift the University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 64-61 victory at North Carolina Wesleyan College on Saturday evening. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season.

The Eagles built a 10-point halftime lead, thanks to seven first half points fromjunior guard Zack Blue and freshman guard Dorian Davis. The Eagles shot 46% from the floor in the first half, while limiting the Battling Bishops to 26% shooting.

In the second half, NC Wesleyan fought back, using a run that would give them the lead at 40-29 with 12:27 remaining. A three pointer from senior Da'Shawn Cook built the Eagles lead to 50-43 with 9:07 left, but another Bishops run gave the hosts a 54-50 lead with 5:14 left. 

The Bishops held a slim lead to the final minute, when Rowson connected on a three pointer with 42 seconds left to tie the score. After NC Wesleyan missed a pair of free throws, Rowson hit two with nine seconds left to give UMW the lead, and Rowson then hit another after a defensive rebound for the final margin.

Rowson scored 26 points on 7-15 shooting, making 2-6 three pointers and 10-12 free throws, and added five rebounds. Cook and Davis each scored nine points, and Daniel Peterson led UMW with six rebounds.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host Randolph-Macon College at 7:00 p.m.
