ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Baseball team rallied from an early 4 run deficit to defeat Ferrum College 10-7 in non-conference action from Bauer Field on Wednesday.

The Bishops' 5th straight win improves them to 12-2 on the season and up to #20 in the most recent D3baseball.com National Poll.

Wesleyan got out to a quck 2-0 lead after the first inning as senior Brad Pennington's triple scored freshman Tyson Bass while junior LF Zach Lyon knocked a single to left to score Pennington.

After three scoreless innings from senior starter Mike Smith, he would get into some trouble in the 4th inning as Ferrum totaled 5 hits to plate the Panthers to a 5-2 lead after 4 innings. A solo home run from Ferrum in the 5th then knocked Smith out of the game after he went 4 and 2/3 innings allowing 6 runs while striking out three.

Senior reliever Chris Day then came on to quell the damage and hold Ferrum (3-7) hitless and scoreless over the next 2 and 1/3 innings.

Wesleyan then began to chip away at their deficit scoring three runs in the sixth inning on a Davie Morgan two-run single before he later came around to score on a wild pitch as the Bishops trailed just 6-5 going into the seventh.

NCWC then loaded the bases in the 7th with no outs and used two back-to-back walks and a wild pitch to jump ahead 8-6. A sacrifice fly from 1B Jackson Murray then made it 9-6 before Morgan added an insurance run on a RBI single in the eighth inning.

Senior reliever Kevin Williams then closed out the game over the final two innings allowing one run on one hit with 3 strikeouts. Morgan and Lyon led Wesleyan with two-hit games apiece while Lyon also recorded a double and Morgan a stolen base.

The Bishops will next begin conference play hosting Greensboro on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
