Baseball Wins Conference Opener over Greensboro

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Baseball team rolled to a 7-3 conference opening win over Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon from Bauer Field.

The win was Wesleyan's sixth straight as they improve to 13-2 on the season.

Wesleyan again got out to another quick start leading 3-0 after two innings on a Brad Pennington RBI double and a Zach Lyon run-scoring single.

The Bishops would add another run in the 3rd inning as Davie Morgan came around to score on a grounder before a wild pitch and a Travis Cross sacrifice fly made it 6-0 Bishops after five innings.

Greensboro would add some runs late off Bishop senior starter Derrick Carter as he pitched into the 8th inning but had only allowed one run through 7 innings. He Finished 7 and 2/3 innings by allowing only 7 hits and one earned run with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts to improve to 3-0 on the year and brought his ERA below 3.0 to 2.93.

Freshman reliever Danny Thompson then came on to close the game getting the final four outs and striking out three.

Junior outfielder Zach Lyon then finished the scoring for the Bishops with his leadoff solo home run in the 8th inning as he finished with 3 hits. Pennington and Morgan also recorded extra-base hits on the game as well.

The teams will resume their conference series on Sunday with a Noon doubleheader.
