Baseball Completes Sweep of Peace

CARY, N.C. - The 15th ranked NC Wesleyan College Baseball Team finished off their sweep of William Peace University with an 8-4 game 3 win on Saturday afternoon from the USA Baseball Complex in Cary.

Peace would get out to a 4-1 lead after 6 innings of play.

The Bishops then came back with a huge 7-run inning in the top of the 7th to jump back in front 8-4. Sophomore 2B Davie Morgan started the 7th inning off by driving in two runs with a double. Outfielder Zach Lyon then gave the Bishops the 5-4 lead with his two-run double. Senior RF Alec Titmus extended the Bishop lead with his RBI single that drove in Lyon.

Sophomore CF Drifton Padgett then drove in 2 more runs off an error by the Peace left fielder scoring Titmus and Murray to finish off the seventh.

Freshman starting pitcher Payne Stolsworth tossed 5 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Freshman reliever Danny Thompson then threw the final 3 1/3 scoreless innings allowing just one hit with 4 strikeouts.

Offensively, the Bishops were led by two-hit games from Morgan and Lyon while 4 other Bishops recorded hits on the day. Recording extra-base hits in the game were Morgan, Lyon, and Padgett.

With the sweep the Bishops improve to 20-3 on the season and 8-1 in the East.

 The #15 Bishops will next be in action on Friday when they head to Pfeiffer University for a weekend conference series.
