#9 Baseball Crushes Pfeiffer 18-1

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The 9th ranked NC Wesleyan College Baseball cruised to a big 18-1 win over conference foe Pfeiffer University in the first game of their weekend series on Friday afternoon.

With their 4th straight win, Wesleyan improves to 21-3 overall and 9-1 in the East Division. Pfeiffer falls to 7-7 overall and 3-3 in the East.

Senior catcher Brad Pennington got the Bishops off to a good start in the first inning crushing a three-run homer that scored infielders Tyson Bass and Nate Hibbs. An RBI groundout and a wild pitch then put NCWC up 5-0 after one inning.

Wesleyan then added three more runs in the 2nd inning on wild pitches, hit by pitches, a fielder's choice and finally an RBI single from senior RF Alec Titmus. Hibbs led off the inning with a HBP before stealing second and coming around to score on a wild pitch. The Bishops then made it 10-0 in the third as OF Zach Lyon drove in two runs with his single.

A Jackson Hobbs single in the 5th inning made it 11-1 before Wesleyan put up a 6-spot in the 8th inning. It began with Davie Morgan singling and scoring on a Pfeiffer error before a Jackson Murray home run made it 14-1. Two more wild pitches scored two Bishops before Pennington's RBI single made it 17-1. Lyon's home run in the 9th then completed the scoring for the stellar Bishops.

On the mound, senior Derrick Carter led the Bishops with 7 innings allowing just one run on 7 hits with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts while senior reliever Robby Casey finished the game throwing 2 scoreless innings allowing just two hits with a strikeout.

Pennington led Wesleyan with 3 hits and 4 RBIs while Lyon had two hits, 3 runs scored and 4 RBIs. Also registering multi-hit games were Hibbs, Hobbs, and CF Drifton Padgett. Lyon's home run was his third of the year while Pennington's was his second.

The teams will conlude their series on Sunday with a 1 PM DH from Pfeiffer.
