North Carolina Wesleyan COED DANCE VIRTUAL TRYOUTS 2021-22

In an ongoing effort to keep everyone safe, Tryouts for the 2021-2022 NC Wesleyan Dance Team will be virtual again this year. Please read the following information and email with any questions.

First - READ the General Audition Information section below & complete the tryout registration form below by May 10.

Second - Informational video and fight song choreography will be sent out to the email provided shortly after you submit the Audition registration form.

Third - You will need to submit a video of yourself performing the fight song and other skills by emailing a link (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.) to pgraham@ncwc.edu

All video submissions must be received by May 24.

You will be notified by May 28 if you have been selected to attend NDA College Camp. If you are selected to attend Camp, then your final team placement will be decided at the conclusion of that camp. (Camp dates are TBD)

(THIS MEANS FINAL TEAM PLACEMENT DECISIONS WILL NOT HAPPEN UNTIL AFTER CAMP)

Video Criteria:

Introduce yourself, name, year in school, and where you are from.

There should only be one person in the video (you).

Dancewear should meet the tryout criteria stated below (black top, black bottoms OR NC Wesleyan gear/colors) and make up & hair should be suitable for a gameday environment.

Performance of the fight song and tryout material.

If you have any specialty skills/combos that highlight you as a dancer, you may include UP TO 3 at the conclusion of your video.

Please record what YOU feel safe doing in the environment you have to work in.

GENERAL AUDITION INFORMATION

Everyone trying out must be full time students at NC Wesleyan College for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Everyone trying out must fill out the Audition Registration Form at the link below.

Everyone trying out must be able to comply with the rules and responsibilities of being a member of the NC Wesleyan College Dance Team, which are outlined in the registration form.

Audition attire for the audition process consists of either (1) black top with black bottoms (pants, leggings, or shorts) or (2) NC Wesleyan gear/colors (navy blue and gold). Dance shoes should be worn at all times (if you have them). Hair and make-up should reflect how you would look at a performance.

JUDGING PROCESS AND CRITERIA

The NC Wesleyan College Dance Team coaches will be looking for well rounded dancers with the potential to perform technical skills and potential to learn all three collegiate styles of dance (Pom, Jazz and Hip Hop). Please do not assume that a weakness or lack of experience in an area will disqualify you as a potential Dance Team member. The coaches are looking for dancers who are eager to learn and improve, will display a positive attitude at all times, and who will work hard throughout the season.

Candidates will be judged on their performance of the fight song, performance of tryout material, physical fitness, and potential for learning and executing technical skills.

The following skills are things Dance Team members would work on throughout the season. Include footage of yourself performing these skills in your video, if possible.

Chaine’ Open Leaps, Calypsos, Specialty Jumps

Leap/Turn Combinations

Flexibility Demos - Leg Hold Turns, Extension Holds
