Bishop Men Snag First Win with 40 Point Rout

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Men's Basketball team rolled to their first win of the season on Tuesday evening blowing past Mid-Atlantic Christian University (N.C.) 102-60 in home non-conference action.

Senior forward A.J. Frye led the Bishops with a season high of 28 points on 12 of 16 shooting while fellow senior forward, Rico Bullock then added a double-double with season-highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds with 4 assists and a block in the big win.

Wesleyan led 53-33 at halftime shooting nearly 70 percent from the floor and holding the Mustangs to under 40 percent. The Bishops used a huge 29-10 run to take control midway through the first half with stifling defense and crowd-pleasing dunks.

It was more of the same for the Bishops in the second half outscoring the Mustangs 49-27 on nearly 60 percent shooting while limiting MACU to just 31 percent from the floor.

Senior guard Cameron Martin also finished in double-figures with 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting from 3-point range while fellow shooting guard, freshman Garrett Phillips also added 8 points with two steals.

Forwards Mitch Layton and Isaiah Lewis also played well with Layton tallying 8 points and 8 rebounds while Lewis put up a season-high of 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and a team-high 3 blocks. Junior guard Josh Covington also led with 7 assists tying his season-high while freshman Guard Tim Pettiford added a team-best 3 steals.

The Bishops improve to 1-4 dropping MACU to 3-4. Wesleyan will next host the Roger Taylor Invitational this weekend opening with Southern Virginia University on Friday at 8 PM before battling St. Andrews Saturday at 3:00 PM.
