Bishop Men Fall at D-1 Norfolk St.

NORFOLK, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team fell 80-58 on the road at Division 1 Norfolk State University on Wednesday afternoon.

Senior wing Damon McDowell led the Bishops with 12 points as well as four assists while sophomore Tim Pettiford also added 8 points and 4 steals, but it was not enough against the Spartans.

Freshman guard Marquis Eskew also scored 10 points off the bench as he was the only other Bishop in double-figures. Junior forward Sal-Bey Young also played well scoring 8 points and 3 rebounds. 

Junior forward Isaiah Lewis led the team with 7 rebounds along with 4 points and a block while sophomore guard Brayden Dixon also scored 4 points with 4 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.

Wesleyan competed well with the talented Spartans throughout the first half getting to within one with 4 minutes to play and would go into the break down just seven at 29-22. Each team finished shooting over 40 percent for the game, but NSU pulled away with more free throws in the second half (16 of 18) as well as shooting better in the half (55%) and finishing 50 percent overall from the field.

Wesleyan falls to 2-3 on the season while NSU improves to 6-4. 

The Bishops return to action on Saturday when they come home to host Virginia Wesleyan in their final non-conference game. Tip-off is set for 1:00 PM from Everett Gym.
