Bishop Men Throttle Peace

Rocky Mount, NC- The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team throttled conference rival William Peace University 100-74 at home Friday evening. 

Senior Damon McDowell helped lead the Bishops to the win by scoring 38 points on 7 of 11 shooting from three-point range to set a new career high in threes. 

Wesleyan now remains unbeaten in conference play at 4-0 as they improve to 7-3 overall on the year. They also remain undefeated against D-3 competition as well.

The Bishops got out to a strong lead going up 16-7 on the strength of McDowell's 3 for 3 shooting from long range before extending it to 30-17 and 49-29 before taking a 52-31 lead at halftime on 53 percent shooting including over 60 percent from three. McDowell went 5 of 7 from three in the first half for 27 points, a new career high in one half. McDowell also finished the game with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and a block.

Wesleyan then stretched their lead to nearly 30 in the second half as they put up 48 points en route to scoring triple-digits for the first time this season. Sophomore forward Tim Pettiford also had a quality game scoring 16 points with 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Junior power forward Isaiah Lewis also finished in double digits with 13 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. 

Freshman guard Khalid Chavis-Hinds also scored 8 points off the bench while fellow freshman guard Marquis Eskew added 6 points and 3 assists. Junior forward Sal-Bey Young scored 6 points and pulled down 6 rebounds with 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block.

NCWC will return to action on Sunday when they travel to Raleigh to finish up their weekend series with the Pacers at 1:00 pm.
