SVU Rallies with Big Second Half to Defeat Bishops

BUENA VISTA, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team dropped their second straight game in Virginia on Saturday falling 77-67 at Southern Virginia University.

Wesleyan led a low-scoring first half 29-24 shooting 40 percent led by senior wing Damon McDowell's 13 points and three 3-pointers while holding the Knights to just 33 percent shooting.

However, SVU would come out a different team in the second half shooting 65 percent and 54 percent from three to score 53 points and outscore the Bishops 53-38. Wesleyan shot just 34 percent in the half and 37 percent overall. SVU shot 47 percent and made 19 of 22 free throws. 

Wesleyan was led by McDowell's 23 points, 4 threes, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal in the defeat while sophomore forward Kyron Kelly also finished in double figures scoring 11 points off the bench.

Junior forward Isaiah Lewis would also finish with 8 points and 9 reboudns while guards Brayden Dixon and Austin Manley also combined for 13 points. Sophomroe guard Khalid Chavis-Hinds led the team in assists with four while scoring 5 points.

Wesleyan falls to 13-6 on the season and 5-3 in the conference while SVU improves to 10-8 overall and 4-3 in the East.

The Bishops will remain on the road to battle Methodist University on Wednesday in a 7:30 tip.
