Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Damon McDowell, N.C. Wesleyan - The graduate-senior guard from Myrtle Beach, SC averaged 29.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 2.0 assists per game as the Battling Bishops posted a 2-0 record against USA South competition last week. Wesleyan improves to 15-6 on the season and 7-3 and in 2nd place in the East Division.
In a 77-58 win over Methodist on Wednesday, McDowell scored 27 points to go along with four rebounds, one assist, and one block. In a 91-77 victory over Pfeiffer, McDowell totaled 31 points, seven rebounds, four blocks, three assists, and one steal.
Damon is now averaging over 22 points per game on the season overall along with nearly 4 rebounds and 2 assists per game. He is also shooting over 40 percent from three-point land while scoring over 400 points on the season so far to move into 2nd on the all-time scoring list at NCWC with 1,810 career points.
He will next lead the Bishops into a crucial home game Wednesday night when they host Mary Baldwin at 7:30 PM.
