KANSAS CITY, Mo. - North Carolina Wesleyan's senior guard Damon McDowell, the 2022 USA South Men's Basketball Player of the Year, has been selected to play in the Reese's Division III All Star Game on Saturday, March 19 at 3:00 p.m. ET at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind.
McDowell led the conference in points averaging 23.6 per game, shooting 47.7 % from the field, 40.8% on 3's, and 80.5% from the free-throw line. He also set the NC Wesleyan school record for three-pointers in a season with 87 and finished 2nd all-time in career points, with 1,968 points. He also collected 500 career rebounds in a school record 115 games.
The Reese's Division III All-Star Game, is held in conjunction with the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship, and features the nation's top senior talent. Rosters include representation from each Division III region.
Former Westminster coach Jim Dafler and former Washington University coach Mark Edwards will serve as coaches for the two All-Star teams.
Dafler was a member of the athletic coaching and administrative staffs at Marietta College, Bethany College, and the University of Mount Union before moving on to Westminster in the fall of 1989. He was named Director of Athletics at Westminster in 1999 and was a key figure in the institution's transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II and to NCAA Division III. He served four years on the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Committee, including serving as committee chair during the 2008-09 season.
Edwards spent 37 years on the sidelines at his alma mater. He led the Bears to back-to-back NCAA Division III national championships in 2008 and 2009 and his teams posted a 685-293 (.700) overall record. He is a three-time Division III Coach of the Year and 10-time UAA Coach of the Year honoree.
