Tennis Dominates USA South Decade Athletes of the Week - Week 31 (April 6-12)

In the absence of Conference competition during the fall semester, the USA South Athletic Conference began selecting athletes of the week based on those who earned an athlete of the week honor in a particular category within the current week over the past decade. With Conference competition resuming during the spring semester, the USA South has extended the decade athletes of the week through the entire academic year. Only athletes from current USA South institutions shall be eligible for selection. Additionally, only sports which have been sponsored by the Conference for at least three full seasons will be included. On to the Week 31 Decade Athletes of the Week...

Men's Tennis Player of the Week


Robert Kjellberg, N.C. Wesleyan (April 6, 2015)  - The senior from Vetlanda, Sweden earned a three-set singles victory over the top-ranked player in the Atlantic South Region from second-ranked Emory, Alex Ruderman, for the Bishops. In doubles action, Kjellberg teamed with Sebastian Sikh to defeat Emory's Atlantic South Region top-ranked doubles team. Also Nominated: Roberto Puig, N.C. Wesleyan (4/8/19); Sebastian Sikh, N.C. Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week


Roberto Puig, N.C. Wesleyan (April 9, 2018) - The freshman from Malaga, Spain earned a 3-0 record at both number-four singles and number-one doubles for the Battling Bishops against nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins and two of the top three teams in the USA South East Division (Methodist and Averett). In doubles, Puig teamed with Ioannis Brokakis for the wins.

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Milena Amedieva, N.C. Wesleyan (April 8, 2019) - The freshman from Samarkand, Uzbekistan earned a 2-0 singles and doubles record for the Battling Bishops. Amedieva collected singles victories over the 21st-ranked player in the country, USA South foe Averett's Heidi Sarkkinen, as well as an opponent from nationally-ranked College of New Jersey.
