Lady Bishop Softball Splits with Barton

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Softball team split their season opening series with nearby Div. II Barton College on Sunday afternoon winning game one 5-1 and falling in game two 9-1.

GAME 1: NCWC 5, BARTON 1

Beth Braswell helped lead the Bishops top the win by throwing all seven innings allowing just one run on 8 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. A big moment for Braswell came in the 2nd inning when she struck out the side after loading the bases with no outs.

Wesleyan broke through for four runs in the 2nd inning beginning with LF Chelsea Nixon's bases-loaded walk. Senior 2B Meredith Booth then followed with a big two-run double before coming around to score later on a wild pitch and help give Wesleyan the 4-0 lead.

The Bishops would add another run in the 4th inning on a Nichole Mooney RBI single while senior 3B Kayla Molivas led the team with two hits and a walk.

GAME 2: BARTON 9, NCWC 1

Barton would then control game two by scoring six runs in the third inning on a home run and two doubles off Bishop starter Grace Preston. Preston did throw all 7 innings settling down after the third to allow just two runs over the final five innings.

Booth would score the lone Bishop run on as she came around to score on a wild pitch after reaching base via a double and a walk on the day. Juniors Brianna Myers and Logan Winstead also singled in the game as well.

Wesleyan goes to 1-1 on the year while Barton improves to 3-5. The Lady Bishops will return to action on Thursday when they head to Winston-Salem to battle Carolina U. (formerly Piedmont International) in a 2 PM DH.
