NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College softball team dropped both of their games against 4th ranked Chris. Newport University (Va.) on the road Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Bishops fell 3-1 in game one and 9-0 in game two.

GAME 1: CNU 3, NCWC 1

The Bishops played well in the first game as senior pitcher Beth Braswell held the powerful CNU offense in check for most of the day as she threw 6 innings allowing just 2 earned runs on 5 hits while striking out five. However, she walked 7 batters.

All the runs in this game came in the 4th inning when senior 3B Kayla Molivas drove in Braswell, who had double, with her RBI single to stake Wesleyan to the 1-0 lead. In the bottom half, CNU came back with a two-run double while two walks and an error led to another run for the Lady Captains.

Wesleyan then rallied in the 7th inning. After Molivas drew a one-out walk, she then advanced to third on a Bryona Knight double. However, with the Bishops having two runners in scoring position and only one out, the next two batters, Chelsea Nixon and Meredith Booth both flew out to end the game.

GAME 2: CNU 9, NCWC 0 (5 innings)

CNU got off to a quick start in game two scoring 5 runs in the first inning on a single, double and a home run before adding four more in the 2nd inning on two singles and a HBP. All 9 runs came off Bishop senior starter Grace Preston while only 7 were earned.

Sophomore reliever Alexis Wynne then came on in the 2nd inning in relief and proceeded to shut down CNU the rest of the game on just three hits while allowing zero runs.

Recording singles in game two were senior SS Meredith Mize and junior pinch-hitter Brianna Myers.

The Bishops now fall to 3-3 on the year with #4 CNU improving to 11-3. Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday when they head to northern VA to open conference play at Mary Baldwin University in a 1 PM DH.
