Bishop Softball Dominates Bluefield St.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Softball team dominated D2 foe Bluefield St. College (WV) 12-0 and 9-1 at home Wednesday afternoon.

Senior pitcher Beth Braswell led Welseyan to a game one win pitching all 5 innings allowing just one hit and no runs with a walk and 11 strikeouts to improve to 8-3 while her freshman catcher MK Raynor also smacked her first career home run, a three-run homer in the third inning that gave Wesleyan a 10-0 lead.

Wesleyan first got out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on RBI doubles from SS Meredith Mize and 3B Kayla Molivas and a sacrifice fly from 1B Bryona Knight. Back-to-back RBI singles from outfielders Nichole Mooney and Logan Winstead then gave the Bishops a 5-0 lead before Winstead scored the 6th run on a wild pitch.

The third inning saw an RBI double from 2B Meredith Booth and Raynor's home run while sophomore RF Alexis Wynne smacked a two-run double in the 4th to clinch the game.

Winstead stole two bases in the first game while Mize and Booth each registered two hits apiece.

Wesleyan then recorded 12 hits in the second game led by a three-hit 2-RBI game from 3B Brianna Myers. Winstead also played well going 2 for 3 with a walk while stealing four bases. 

Booth also crushed a home run in the 5th inning while NCWC got RBI singles from Winstead and two from Myers along with an RBI double from Mize to clinch the win in the 5th. Wesleyan then got sacrifice flies from Mize, catcher Summer Phillips, and freshman 1B Abby Todd.

Senior pitcher Grace Preston led Wesleyan in the circle throwing 5 innings allowing just one run on 4 hits with 2 walks to improve to 2-6 on the year.

The Lady Bishops improve to 11-9 on the season and will next host conference rival Greensboro on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM.
