RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Softball team used a strong performance from senior pitcher Beth Braswell in defeating William Peace 6-2 in game one of their non-conference DH on Wednesday. Peace, however, then came back to win game two 8-5.

Braswell hit a solo homer and also pitched all 7 innings allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 10 to pick up her 12th win. She now has a 1.50 ERA on the season with 114 strikeouts.

The Bishops got the offense going in the third inning as senior infielders Kayla Molivas and Bryona Knight stroked back-to-back RBI singles to stake Wesleyan to a 2-0 lead. Senior 2B Meredith Booth then stepped up and roped a two-run single driving in Molivas and Knight for the 4-0 lead.

After a two-run homer from Peace in the bottom of the third, Braswell and the Bishops then proceeded to shut down the Pacers for the final four innings. LF Logan Winstead then drove in freshman MK Raynor with a sac fly in the 4th before Braswell hit her solo homer in the 6th, her 4th of the year.

Knight, Booth and Braswell all led the Bishops with 2-hit games.

In game two, Peace would jump out to a 5-1 lead after 3 innings off game two senior starter Grace Preston. Sophomore reliever Alexis Wynne then replaced Preston in the 4th after a Peace home run to then hold the Pacers to just one run on one hit over the final 3 innings.

Wesleyan began a rally in the 5th inning with a two-run double from Braswell before senior catcher Summer Phillips scored on an error in the 7th and Abby Todd drove in a run on her RBI single. However, the Bishops ran out of outs falling 8-5.

SS Meredith Mize and Todd led the Lady Bishops with two-hit games while Mize also knocked a double.

Wesleyan is now 15-15 on the season while Peace goes to 11-21.

The Bishops will finish conference play with a Sunday DH at Methodist at 1 and 3 PM.
