ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College softball team dropped a pair of conference games to East Division rival Pfeiffer University on Saturday from Edge Field. Pfeiffer scored some runs late to put away game one 10-3 before shutting out the Lady Bishops 9-0 in game two.

GAME 1: PU 10, NCWC 3

In game one, Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead in the 2nd inning scoring on a Brianna Myers RBI walk and a Logan Winstead RBI single. Pfeiffer would then retake the lead scoring three runs in the third off freshman starter Emily Humphrey. Wesleyan would get one back in the bottom third on freshman 3B Molly Alejandrino's solo home run, her 4th of the year.

Unfortunately, the Lady Falcons would then put the game out of reach with a 5-run fourth inning off Humphrey (7-4) to knock her out of the game after allowing 9 runs on 7 hits with 5 walks and 3 strikeouts. freshman reliever Emily Osteguin would then finish the game for the Bishops tossing three scoreless and hitless innings.

Freshman 2B Alexis Whitfield also recorded a bunt single for the Bishops.

GAME 2: PU 9, NCWC 0

In game two, Pfeiffer starter Ashlyn Kennedy shut down the Bishops allowing just 3 hits and 0 runs over 7 innings walking two and striking out 8. NCWC freshman starter Laila Holloway held her own, however, as she competed hard for 5 innings allowing just 2 runs on 3 hits while walking two and striking out one. Fellow freshman reliever Sofia Salcido also tossed a scoreless inning.

Leading the offense in game two was Alejandrino with a double and stolen base while senior SS Meredith Mize and sophomore 1B Abby Todd also recorded singles.

Pfeiffer held a slim 1-0 lead through four innings before adding one more off Holloway in the 5th. However, freshman reliever Emily Osteguin allowed three runs in the 6th before Pfeiffer added four more on a grand slam off Humphrey in the 7th.

Wesleyan falls to 13-11 overall and 3-3 in the East Div. while Pfeiffer improves to 19-6 and 6-0 in division.

The Bishops are next on the road in Raleigh on Wednesday to battle rival Peace at 1:00 PM.
