Bishop Women Drop D-1 Matchup at Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team fell 109-69 in their exhibition game at Div. I College of Charleston on Friday.

Seniors Myrayna Watkins and Kayla Johnson each led the Bishops with 12 points apiece with Johnson leading the way with 4 three-pointers as she shot over 50 percent from behind the arc. 

Watkins also added 5 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block in the loss. Senior point guard Keorra Taylor also added 8 points with 5 rebounds and a team-best 5 assists while fellow senior guard Cydney Nichols tallied 9 points with 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Freshman guard Nadia Simmons also played well in scoring 7 points with 3 rebounds while fellow freshman Johnay Goddard also added 5 points and 5 rebounds.

Charleston (3-2) led just 24-17 near the end of the first quarter as Wesleyan hung right with the D-1 team, but CoC picked up their defense and then led 56-25 at the break. Wesleyan did end up winning the fourth quarter for the third straight game taking it 28-25.

 Wesleyan shot 41 percent for the game and 38 percent from three making 8 three-pointers while they were also a respectable 76 percent from the foul line.
