Bishop Women Wallop Greensboro, Advance to Championship

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The top-seeded NC Wesleyan College women's basketball team poured on the offense on Wednesday racking up 102 points en route to a 30-point 102-72 Division Semifinal win over 4th seeded Greensboro College.

The women improve to 15-1 overall with their 13th straight win while remaining unbeaten against D-3 schools. The Bishops now advance to the championship final of the USA South's East Division Tournament on Saturday at 2 PM to battle #2 seed William Peace.

Wesleyan again used balanced scoring putting five women in double-figure points while shooting 44 percent from the floor and knocking down 12 threes.

Seniors Kayla Johnson and Myrayna Watkins each led the Bishops with 18 points apiece with Watkins also adding 9 rebounds and 2 steals while shooting 8 of 12. Johnson also had a good shooting night as she shot 6 of 11 overall with four of five treys, 3 assists and 4 rebounds. Senior guard Cydney Nichols also added 17 points.

Wesleyan used quality defense to lead 24-13 after one quarter. Greensboro then went on a run in the second quarter posting 28 points to cut into Wesleyan's lead and trail by just eight at the break, 49-41.

After GC got to within three points early in the third, Wesleyan then stepped up their game and pulled away by going on a 26-10 run to increase their lead to 19 at 77-58 at the end of the third to essentially put the game away.

Wesleyan would then hold the Pride to just 14 points in the fourth while outscoring them by 11 to grab the win. Senior wing Javana Jones led the Bishops off the bench with 14 points and 7 rebounds while sophomore guard Nyesha Best added 10 points and a team-best 4 assists and 2 steals.

Sophomore forward Kayrisma Harrison also played good minutes off the bench scoring 7 points and 8 rebounds with a massive block while fellow sophomore guard Myesha Best posted 8 points.
