Lady Bishops Gain a Draw on Pfeiffer Own Goal

MISENHEIMER, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's soccer team gained a 1-1 draw on the road with conference foe Pfeiffer University (NC) on Saturday.

In the 88th minute, a set piece from sophomore Isabel Neall set up an own goal by Pfeiffer that tied the game at one late in the second half.

Pfeiffer first grabbed the lead in the 33rd minute on an unassisted goal as Pfeiffer would take an 8-0 shot count lead into the break.

The Falcons then held the Bishops without a shot for the majority of the half until Neall's set piece set up the Bishops to grab an own goal via Pfeiffer and head into overtime.

However, the overtime periods is where the Lady Bishops got stronger by outshooting Pfeiffer 5-2, but would eventually settle for the draw. Sophomore midfielder Emily Puentes led Wesleyan with 2 shots while senior goalkeeper Alicia Jacobs then played brilliantly making 8 saves on 9 shots on goal to keep the Bishops in the game.

Wesleyan goes to 2-1-1 in the conference with the draw while Pfeiffer sits at 0-1-1.

The Lady Bishops will now return to action next Saturday when they host Mary Baldwin at 3 PM.
