Lady Bishops Rout Mary Baldwin to Clinch 3rd Seed

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's soccer team cruised to a 5-2 win over Mary Baldwin University in their final conference game of the season on Tuesday afternoon from Scalf Field.

The Lady Bishops improve to 3-2-2 on the season officially, but 4-2-1 in conference (due to a forfeit win over Meredith College) and clinch the #3 seed in this weekend's conference tournament where they will travel to #2 seed Greensboro College on Saturday.

After MBU (2-3) got on the board first with a goal in the 12th minute of play, the Bishops came right back 9 minutes later with a goal of their own from junior forward Claire Bailey off an assist from sophomore Sophia Sweeney. Wesleyan then came back 6 minutes after that to take the lead 2-1 with a goal from junior forward Khristel Thompson off an assist from senior forward Cydney Nichols in her season debut. 

After the halftime break, the Bishops then scored 4 minutes into the second half on another goal from Bailey off an assist this time from junior MF Kailey Munro to lead 3-1. Four minutes after that, senior forward Madison Stace broke through on another assist from Sweeney before sophomore Emily Puentes closed it oout with the 5th Bishop goal of the game in the 77th minute on another assist from Munro.

Goalkeepers Alicia Jacobs and Anna Yeakey combined to make 3 saves on 5 shots on goal while Thompson and Bailey each finished the regular season with 3 goals apiece.
