Women's Soccer Shuts Out Pfeiffer 1-0

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's soccer team played terrific defense all game long en route to a 1-0 shutout win over Pfeiffer for their first USA South win of the season.

Wesleyan broke through for the only goal of the match in the 38th minute as junior forward Rian Pecci-Young scored on a terrific pass from sophomore midfielder Vendela Dolsenius. The goal was Pecci-Young's 2nd of the season and also the 2nd assist for Vendela.

Wesleyan would take the one goal lead and a 10-3 shot advantage into the break. 

The second half then saw the Bishops and senior goalkeeper Alicia Jacobs play great defense with Jacobs making save after save to grab the win. She finished with 5 saves on the afternoon as the Bishops outshot the Falcons 18-6 overall led by four shots apiece from freshman forward Caitlyn Butler and senior defender Emily Ketchum. A shot from junior Sophia Sweeney late in the second half clanked off the crossbar as well as the Bishops looked for an insurance goal.

Jacobs now has 41 saves on the season.

The Bishops improve to 3-6-1 and 1-2 in the conference while Pfeiffer falls to 0-8 and 0-3 in USA South play.

Wesleyan will remain home to host rival Methodist on Wednesday at 4 PM.
