Lady Bishop Soccer Drops tough match to MBU 3-2

STAUNTON, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College women's soccer team fell 3-2 on the road to conference foe Mary Baldwin (Va.) on Saturday afternoon.

MBU got on the board first scoring in the 29th minute before Wesleyan came back with a goal just 7 minutes later in the 36th minute to tie it at one. Senior forward Megan Mackey scored her first goal of the season on assist from midfielder Claire Bailey.

The Lady Bishops then immediately scored the go-ahead goal just 5 minutes later as Bailey scored this time on assist from Mackey to make it 2-1 at the break while trailing 7-4 in the shot count.

The Lady Squirrels then opened the second half with the tying goal in the 54th minute. MBU then took the lead back for good nine minutes later as Quierra Hawkins scored again for the Squirrels to put MBU up 3-2.

MBU would hold on for the win outshooting the Bishops 14-8 overall. The goalkeeping tandem of Anna Yeakey and Jordan Fransee combined to allow 3 goals on 5 shots with Yeakey making two saves.

Right winger Kailey Munro led the Bishops with 4 shots attempted as well.

Wesleyan falls to 3-8-1 on the season and 1-4 in the East Division while MBU improves to 7-4-1 and 3-1 in the East.

Wesleyan returns to action on Tuesday when they head to Raleigh to face William Peace under the lights at 7 PM.
