ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's tennis team split their weekend matches falling to Mary Washington (Va.) 8-1 at home on Sunday afternoon but defeating conference foe Mary Baldwin (Va.) 8-1 yesterday.

The women played well against a consistently ranked UMW (2-1) national program. Some really good matches, especially in some of the singles matches as freshman Elisa Mariotti won the only bout at #3 singles winning 6-1 before her opponent retired due to injury.

The Lady Bishops then suffered two tough three-set losses at the top two lines. Freshman Stefanie Wilske fell 6-2, 5-7, 8-10 at the top line losing a heartbreaker of a match while junior Giulia Zanetti then lost 1-6, 6-2, 5-10 at the #2 spot.

Picking up wins against MBU on Saturday were Wilske, Zanetti, and MAriotti as they each shut out their opponents while the three doubles teams combined to win 16-1 with the #3 team forfeting to the Bishops.

Wesleyan improves to 3-4 on the season and will next return to action on Wednesday on the road against D-3 power CNU at 4 pm.
