Track & Field Competes at Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - This weekend the NC Wesleyan Track & Field teams traveled to D-2 Mount Olive to compete against schools from all divisions such as D1, D2, D3, NAIA, and Junior College. At the end of the meet the Bishops left the meet with some new school records and personal bests.

On Saturday morning the team traveled back to Mount Olive and started off with the field events such as Long Jump, Shot Put, and Javelin. Sophomore Toni Foster, Sidnie Parks, and freshman Florentina Lonati competed in the Long Jump and Lonati ended that event with a new school record of 12'4''.

Lonati then walked over to the Shotput area and threw another school record of 8 meters.  The next event for her was the Javelin, which she was joined by Sarah Waters, who finished 15th in 17.8 meters. Lonati was 13th with a throw of 24.4 meters.

Our ladies have a solid 400 meter runner in sophomore Teanna Bellamy, who is one of the nation's top 400 meter runner.  She ran was put into a tough heat with other good runners and she held her own finishing 20th in 1:05.  Freshmen Catalina Hermosa,  Angelica Contreras, and sophomore Snejana Spinache (25th in 1:13) also competed in this race and showed lots of potential, as Hermosa improved on her personal best by 4 seconds, 1:14.

In the 800 meters, junior Michelle Sackey-Ansah also ran well and finished 25th out of 33 runners in a time of 2:48.

The men and women competed in the 4x400 meter relay as well with the women setting a new school record in 4:43 while the men ran a program best under Coach Leonard, and the only faster time was back in 1980 when Hall of Famer Wallace Johnson competed. This was the last race of the day and it an exciting race to watch as it brought excitement to the track.

The runners will next be competing on April 10 in the Trojan Relays also in Mount Olive.
