Bishop Volleyball Drops Matches to Greensboro in Season Opener

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team unfortunately dropped both of their season-opening matches at Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon.

Greensboro (2-0) swept the Bishops in the conference match of the day 25-17, 25-21, and 25-23 before also taking the second match in 3 sets as well. 

Junior middle blocker Lauren Weaver led Wesleyan with 12 kills and 4 total blocks in the first match hitting a team-best and impressive .409 while fellow junior middle Sydney Barnwell recorded 6 kills with an ace and a block.

Also playing well was freshman setter Sloan Martin who finished with 19 assists, 14 digs, 3 kills, an ace and 2 blocks while senior libero Sam Butensky recorded 19 digs and 2 assists.

Sophomore right side hitter Michaela Seawell also added 6 kills and 7 digs while senior outside hitter Callie Cline recorded 4 kills with 10 digs and a block.

Match 2: GC 3, NCWC 0

In the second matchup of the day, the Pride got off to another fast start taking the first set 25-11. A competitive second set that was tied throughout saw two late kills give GC the 28-26 second set win. Wesleyan totaled 16 kills in the second set hitting .250. Greensboro then won the third set 25-18 by hitting .389 while Wesleyan hit .222 with 12 kills.

Seawell then led the Lady Bishops with 8 kills while hitting .350 with 8 digs, 3 assists, and 2 aces. Weaver also finished with 6 kills and a block while junior outside hitter Bijou Patel played well hitting .308 with 6 kills.

Martin then added 21 assists, 2 digs, and 3 kills while Cline had 4 kills, 6 digs, and assist. Butensky had 12 digs as the libero as well.

Wesleyan, now 0-2, will next face William Peace on the road on Wednesday at 7 PM.
