ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Volleyball team dropped both matches to conference foe Pfeiffer University in their home opener on Saturday afternoon.

In the conference match, Pfeiffer won the sets 25-20, 28-26, and 25-21. Wesleyan tried to extend the match to a 4th set after leading the 2nd set 24-23 and 26-25 but unfortunately could not come away with the win. Wesleyan did hit .176 in the third set with 13 kills.

Junior middle Lauren Weaver led the Bishops with 10 kills and 2 blocks while hitting .250 while freshman setter Sloan Martin recorded a double-double of 29 assists and 11 digs along with 4 kills and 2 aces.

Junior Right side hitters Michaela Seawell and Sydney Barnwell then combined for 13 kills and 9 digs while Barnwell added 2 aces and a block. Senior outside hitter Callie Cline also had 5 kills and 11 digs with 2 aces and a block. Libero Sam Butensky added 16 digs as well.

In the second matchup of the day, the Lady Falcons also got past the Bishops in 3 sets winning them 25-19, 25-16, and 25-23. A competitive third set would eventually see Pfeiffer lead by seven at 24-17 before the Bishops went on a late game 6-0 run forcing two Pfeiffer timeouts to trail 24-23. However, they could not push the set to extra points as Pfeiffer got the kill they needed to end it.

Leading Wesleyan in kills in the second match was Cline with 8 kills along with 10 digs and a block while Weaver totaled 7 kills and 2 blocks. Butensky then played well leading in digs with 22.

Freshman Mary Alice Butler also added 4 kills with just one error and a block while junior OH Bijou Patel recorded 4 kills and 3 blocks.

The setting trio of Martin, Desiree Walker and Allison Wichrowski also combined for 21 assists and 9 digs.

The Lady Bishops fall to 0-5 on the year with the losses while Pfeiffer improves to 4-1.
