Lady Bishop Volleyball Drops Matches at Meredith

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team unfortunately dropped both of their matches 3-0 to conference foe Meredith College on Saturday afternoon. Wesleyan first fell 25-14, 25-14, 25-20 to the Angels in the conference match before falling 3-0 in the non-conference match.

In the first match, junior middle Lauren Weaver led the Bishops with 8 kills and only one error while hitting .538 as freshman setter Sloan Martin also played well recording 5 kills with 18 assists, 3 digs, and an ace.

Sophomore RS Michaela Seawell also added 6 kills with 3 aces, 4 digs, and 2 assist while senior libero Sam Butensky led the team with 12 digs and also had two assists.

Wesleyan totaled 12 kills in a competitive third set outscoring Meredith 12-8 in kills and hitting .194, but committed more errors overall leading to the 5-point set defeat.

In the second match, a competitive first set saw MC pull away to take it 25-19 on 14 kills holding NCWC to just 7 kills. Wesleyan then posted 9 kills in the second set hitting .238 but MC only managed one error with 11 kils to hit .556 to take the set 25-16. Meredith then closed out the match 25-9 in the third set as they had an impressive 16 kills on only one error.

Junior right side Sydney Barnwell led the way this time with 7 kills, 2 aces, and 2 blocks while Weaver also registered 7 kills hitting .308. Martin then added 20 assists and 5 digs as the setter while Seawell had 5 kills and 8 digs. Senior outside hitter Callie Cline also recorded 4 kills and 4 digs. 

Wesleyan will return to action next Saturday when they head to Mary Baldwin University for a Noon doubleheader.
