NCW Volleyball Falls to St. Andrews in 5 on Senior Day

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College volleyball team lost a hard-fought five-set match to NAIA foe St. Andrews University on Senior Day Sunday afternoon.

Wesleyan came out strong in the match winning the first set 25-21 hitting .220 with 15 kills before dominating the Knights in the second set to take it 25-14 with 12 kills and hitting .231.

SAU (6-16) then took advantage of the Bishops reserves in the third set to win it 25-12 hitting .240 with 10 kills before also playing well to steal the fourth set from Wesleyan 25-16 on 14 kills.

Then, the Bishops fell behind 10-3 in the fifth set, but rallied to get within three at 13-10, but got no closer in falling 15-11.

Junior middle blocker Lauren Weaver led Wesleyan with 13 kills and 3 blocks while hitting .179 as freshman setter Sloan Martin also played well recording a double-double of 36 assists and 12 digs along with 4 kills.

Junior right side hitter Michaela Seawell also played well recording 9 kills and 9 digs hitting .214 while fellow right side, senior Augusta Preston had a nice game registering 7 kills with 5 digs.

Senior libero Sam Butensky recored 20 digs defensively while fellow senior, outside hitter Callie Cline, had 16 digs and 5 kills with 3 blocks as well. Junior middle Sydney Barnwell put down 9 kills with 3 blocks and 3 digs also.

The Bishops finish their shortened spring season 5-10 overall and 3-4 in the USA South and in 5th place, just a game out of the Division tournament.
