NCWU Volleyball Drops Home Opener to Meredith

Rocky Mount, NC - NC Wesleyan Volleyball hosted the Avenging Angels of Meredith College on Tuesday night to open conference play. The Bishops dropped a tight three-setter, losing 23-25, 15-25, and 20-25.

The Bishops hit a .238 as a team, led by first-year Katie Fulton's 12 kills. Setter Sloan Martin played her most efficient offensive match to date, managing a .583 with 8 kills plus 19 assists. Fifth-year senior Bijou Patel added 8 kills on the outside, followed by middle Ludmila Borges with 4 kills and Emily Foraker with 3 kills.

The defensive effort was led by fifth-year libero Barrett Davis with 12 digs. Martin added 10 digs from right-back, followed by Kira Kristjanson with 7 digs. First-year Fulton and fifth-year Mary Cat Davis each tallied 5 digs, bringing the team total to 44.

The Bishops' scrappy defense fell just short of stopping the Angels at the net. Meredith's 46 kills lead to an efficient performance, hitting a .364. The Bishops move to 0-1 in conference play and 3-7 overall. NCWU will host non-conference opponent Carolina University at 6 PM on Thursday, before traveling to Greensboro on Friday for two conference matchups.
