Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week

Hunter Hill, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Asheboro, North Carolina earned a 1-0 record in two relief appearances last week for the Battling Bishops. Hill tossed four shutout innings, allowing two hits without a walk and four strikeouts. His victory came in a 3-2 win over USA South Greensboro as he tossed two shutout innings to get the win/save.
 
Hill is now 1-0 on the year with a 3.75 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 12 innings.
 
 
Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week

Emily Humphrey, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina earned a 2-0 record in two appearances, both starts, last week for the Battling Bishops. In complete-game wins over USA South foes Greensboro and Southern Virginia, Humphrey totaled 14.0 innings pitched and compiled a 1.00 ERA by allowing two runs on seven hits with four walks and nine strikeouts. 
 
Humphrey is now 10-5 on the season with a 3.38 ERA and 43 strikeouts over 91 innings and 9 complete games.
 
 

MEN'S TENNIS

Men's Tennis Player of the Week

#3 Jhonny Acosta, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior from Ita, Paraguay earned a 2-0 singles record with a 3-2 doubles mark, all at the number-one position, last week for the Battling Bishops. In singles, Acosta, the top-ranked player in the Atlantic Region, defeated the top player from Division II's Mount Olive as well as the 15th-ranked player in Division III's Atlantic South Region from USA South foe Averett. In doubles, Acosta teamed with JP Vallejo to gain a win over opposition from USA South foe Averett then teamed with Diego Segovia to collect wins over Div. II Shaw and Div. III Hampden-Sydney. 

Men's Doubles Team of the Week

Roberto Puig (right) and Max Robinson (left), N.C. Wesleyan - The Battling Bishop duo earned a 4-1 record last week versus all at the number-two position. The wins came over opposition from Shaw, Mount Olive, USA South foe Averett, and Hampden-Sydney. The lone loss was to Division-I, seventh-ranked, Wake Forest. 

    

The Bishop men will next lead the 23-4 team into a senior day conference match vs. Greensboro on Wednesday at 3:30 PM.

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD

Women's Track Athlete & Rookie of the Week

Mariah Brooks, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Lawrenceville, Georgia competed at the Mount Olive Trojan Relays last week in two events. In the 100 meters, Brooks finished in a time of 12.19 while also helping the 4x100 meter relay team post a time of 50.40.

Brooks will now compete in the USA South Championships on Wednesday and Thursday in Berea, KY.
