BELMONT, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team concluded its opening home stand with a match against North Carolina Wesleyan Saturday at Alumni Field.
Omar Gonzalez earned the first goal of the match off a penalty kick but the Battling Bishops came away with a 4-1 victory.
Saturday's match was an exhibition for North Carolina Wesleyan. Belmont Abbey is now 1-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gonzalez's goal came off a penalty kick in the 41st after the Crusaders drew a foul in the penalty box.
- The Crusaders outshot the Battling Bishops 7-2 in the first 45 minutes.
- Belmont Abbey also held a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal.
- North Carolina Wesleyan scored four goals in the second half.
