Baseball Drops Road Contest to #16 Christopher Newport

Newport News, VA - In a non-conference matchup on Wednesday, the NC Wesleyan baseball team traveled to Newport News to face off against Christopher Newport. Unfortunately, the Bishops were unable to come away with a win, falling to the Captains by a final score of 8-3.

Despite a strong start, where Wesleyan scored three runs in the first inning, they were unable to maintain the lead. Christopher Newport came back strong, also scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, then two in the second.

Zach Lyon and Jaiden Barker had impressive performances at the plate for the Bishops, each earning multi-hit games and an RBI. Davie Morgan also contributed an RBI to the effort. On the mound, Drake Hobgood and Drifton Padgett had strong outings, throwing nearly two innings combined of no-hit baseball.

Despite the efforts of Lyon, Barker, Morgan, Hobgood, and Padgett, the Bishops ultimately fell to 10-4 on the season with the loss. The baseball program will look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to Pfeiffer to open up USA South action.

Wesleyan's overall record is now 10-4.
