Bats Struggle in 4-1 loss to #16 Christopher Newport

Rocky Mount, NC - The NC Wesleyan baseball team fell to #16 Christopher Newport 4-1 on Wednesday night. In a tough match-up where the Bishop bats couldn't get hot, great pitching out of the bullpen couldn't help the effort. Despite strong performances from Davie Morgan and Jackson Hobbs, who both had multi-hit games, the Bishops left 9 men on base and struck out a staggering 14 times throughout the game. The Bishops had the bases loaded in the 9th inning as well, but could not convert.

On the pitching side which was a bright spot, sophomore Dylan Cheeley had an impressive outing, throwing 6.2 innings without allowing a run and giving up only 6 hits. Despite Cheeley's efforts, the Captain's pitching did not allow Wesleyan to come back in the contest.

The Bishops will once again be at Bauer Field Friday night for their USA South home opener against Southern Virginia. Friday night will also be the baseball program's Light The Field event, which will honor all of the donors who made the baseball lights a reality. The first pitch is slated for 6 pm.
